What Is In Your Control?

Check-ins are important. You should be doing them.

Here’s why.

A check-in gives you a chance to reconnect with your goals. It creates accountability — not the scary kind, but the kind that comes from someone who genuinely cares about where you’re headed.

If you’ve been doing what you said you would?
Expect a crisp high five and a fun conversation about what’s next.

And if you haven’t been doing everything you planned?

This isn’t a dentist appointment. You’re not getting the “WHY HAVEN’T YOU BEEN FLOSSING?” lecture.

Growth isn’t linear. At some point, everyone slips backward. That’s normal. A coach’s role during a check-in is to be a resource — and remember, you’re working with someone who’s an expert in the exact thing you’re trying to improve. Use them.

If something isn’t working, your coach already has multiple strategies ready to try — things we review and refine every month so we can better help you.

So if you walk into a check-in and things haven’t gone the way you hoped, the conversation usually sounds more like this:

“I see we didn’t hit what we planned this cycle. What’s been going on?”

“I’ve just been swamped with work and kids, and getting to the gym feels like a struggle.”

“That happens to all of us. Life has seasons, and this one is tough. Do you still want to move your journey forward here?”

“Yes.”

“Cool. Let’s focus on what’s actually in our control.”

From there, we dig into what’s really getting in the way. Most of the time, there are things you can control — and often it’s a story around the obstacle that needs adjusting, not the obstacle itself.

At the end of the day, growth is hard. Sometimes it feels like climbing a mountain. Other times it’s just stepping up onto a curb.
