The final pillar

We have covered Fitness, Nutrition, Sleep, and Mindset.

Now we cover the one that is one of the most common reasons people want to join a group class environment.

COMMUNITY

We are part of a species called Homo Sapiens (that is the singular of that noun oddly enough).

We have been successful in growing out population because we are dang good at turning rocks and trees into tools.

The other thing we are really good at? Making friends.

I know. Crazy given all those wars we have had. But, it’s true.

Even crazier? No matter how much a loaner you may view yourself to be, we are biologically hard wired to need a community.

At the core of this need? Safety. 

No, not in a “if I run faster than all of them I won’t get eaten by the bear” way like elk.

In a support network kind of way.

The people we surround ourselves most shape our realities to an extent most of us don’t think about on a regular basis.

I mean I’m sure you’ve heard “you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with” at some point. While that line isn’t completely true, the message it tries to send is.

The communities we choose to surround ourselves with help or hurt the previous pillar we discussed, MINDSET.

While we are able to control our attitude and effort, the community you lean on in times of struggle can increase or decrease the difficulty of those situations.

These people can help push towards you where you want to be or pull you back to where you were.

Which is why learning your values and starting a journey towards vulnerability is crucial to finding the community that will push you towards what you view to be your best self.

Proof of concept: how many of you joined Vegvisir saying something along the lines of “I want to join Vegvisir because I believe that having a group will hold me accountable on my journey to lose weight/build muscle/be healthy for the rest of my life”?

You have a need that you wanted help with, you admitted it, and realized having a community that shares the value of improving one’s health is important is a crucial part of that.

The people we choose to surround ourselves with matters. Imagine doing what you have done if someone said,

“Why do you always go to the gym?”

“Why are you ordering vegetables? I could never do that!”

”I’m gonna skip this meal because I had dessert earlier.”

Surround yourself with people who want to succeed. If you’ve got someone cheering you on for no other reason than they love to see you win, you’re doing pretty amazing at this. If you cheer someone else on in the same way? 

Why you just might be what we call a Vegvisir Athlete (or just an awesome human. What ever you prefer 😉).
