The Final Pillar

We’ve covered Fitness, Nutrition, Sleep, and Mindset.

Now we arrive at the pillar that’s one of the most common reasons people choose a group class environment in the first place:

COMMUNITY

We’re part of a species called Homo sapiens (oddly enough, that’s both the singular and plural).

We’ve been wildly successful as a species for a few reasons. One is that we’re excellent at turning rocks and trees into tools.

The other?

We’re really good at making friends.

I know—surprising, considering our long history of conflict. But it’s true. And even more surprising: no matter how much of a loner you think you are, humans are biologically wired to need community.

At the core of that need is safety.

Not in a “run faster than everyone else so the bear eats them first” kind of way—but in a support-network kind of way.

The people we spend the most time with shape our reality far more than most of us realize. You’ve probably heard the phrase, “You are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with.” While that’s not perfectly accurate, the message behind it matters.

The communities we choose directly influence the pillar we talked about last time: Mindset.

Yes, you control your attitude and your effort—but the people you lean on during hard seasons can either make challenges lighter or heavier. They can push you toward who you want to become… or pull you back toward who you used to be.

That’s why understanding your values—and being willing to be a little vulnerable—is essential when building a community that actually supports your growth.

Proof of concept: how many of you joined Vegvisir saying something like,

“I want to join because having a group will keep me accountable while I lose weight, build muscle, or stay healthy long-term.”

You recognized a need. You admitted it. And you understood that surrounding yourself with people who value health and growth matters.

Because imagine trying to do all this while constantly hearing:

“Why do you go to the gym so much?”
“I could never eat vegetables like that.”
“I skipped dinner because I had dessert earlier.”

Community matters.

If you have people around you who cheer you on simply because they love seeing you win—you’re doing this pillar really well.

And if you cheer others on the same way?

Well… that’s what we call a Vegvisir Athlete.
(Or just an awesome human. Either works 😉)

Next up, we’ll wrap this entire series together with 10 simple things you can do each day to know you’re moving toward better health—even on the rough days.

Have a wonderful day, and we’ll see you in the gym.
