Non-Exercise AcTivities also known as the very forced acronym “NEAT”
Walking, fidgeting, laughing, doing dishes, and any other moving you do outside the gym can dramatically affect how many calories you burn each day.
If you bounce your leg while ya sit or any other type of fidgeting, you could be burning an average of 350 calories per day.
(The equivalent of running about 3 miles)
If you walk while you talk on the phone? Walking for an hour burns about 300 calories.
You’ll even burn about 50-100 calories while doing dishes for 30 minutes.
If you’re on a weight loss journey right now, getting up and doing something can help increase your calorie deficit.
In Houston, it can feel hard to get out and move because it is just so dang hot. The thing is, Houstonians know this and have built ways around it.
One of my favorite things I have started doing this summer is doing work from my phone while hiking the trails in Memorial Park. There are miles of shaded woodland trails with excellent cell service where you can make those calls for work while taking in some beautiful scenery that is less than 30 minutes from home (for most of the Vegvisir family).
If you need help finding some NEAT activities, hit me up and I’ll workshop ideas that work with your schedule.
