Wanna lose weight?
What about put on muscle mass?
Look leaner?
Or just overall be fitter?
I’ve got this miracle program for you and you can do it outside the walls of Vegvisir (in-fact, if you do this program within the walls of Vegvisir, you’ll probably give Hunter a heart attack)!
Step 1: Sleep MORE
Sleep is such a tricky subject here at Vegvisir. We’ve got so many hard working professionals and students trying to squeeze everything they can out of their day.
To speak from experience, I’m a victim of the “if I stay up and get this done tonight, I won’t have to worry about it tomorrow” crew.
If you didn’t feel heard by that, then you can also raise your hand if you stayed up to finish watching another episode of “Succession!”
Sleep is probably the most important thing we have control over and can do more good than any drug out their on the market for building muscle, losing weight, and improving happiness.
For all my coffee and energy drink enthusiasts out there, it also makes you feel more awake than any dosage of caffeine.
Want to know the trick I used to leave the “sleep is the first thing I sacrifice” crew?
3 Tricks:
“You can do it in the morning!” – Doing things while exhausted takes at least twice as long. It’s easier to get distracted and that one YouTube video you watched to give yourself a reward for working so late, could be time used sleeping.
“Will I regret not doing this 5 minutes from now, 5 months from now, or 5 years from now.” – Otherwise known as the “5-5-5” rule, this is something that is super helpful when deciding how pressing a task really is. We crave stress and every task can feel incredibly important. Take a second before sitting down at 11pm to finish that last project and truly analyze the ramifications of you not doing it RIGHT then. Will it affect you 5 years from now? GET ON IT. 5 months? It might be something we can do first thing in the morning. If the consequences will just bother you for 5 minutes after missing it, let’s go ahead and abandon that quest for today. The sleep you get will make that disappointment go away by morning!
Working Out In The Morning – I KNOW RIGHT? If you’ve known me for any amount of time before having Tormund, catching me workout in the morning was like catching someone who owns a Dale Jr. Shirt at Whole Foods (pretty dang rare)! The thing is, now that I workout in the morning, I am actually tired when it’s time for bed. Exercise is a stressor, no matter how good it is, and it gets our body nice and energized. It can give use energy to attack a great number of tasks. The problem is, when that energy is given to you at 6pm and ya gotta sleep at 8:30pm to wake up for work at 4:30am, you’re not gonna be tired. So, if you’ve got a pretty early rise, consider getting a workout in the morning!
Step 2: Execute on Sleeping More
Get some sleep y’all and take action to do so! You’re body will thank you by making that saying on your coffee mug that says “don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee” a joke, rather than a warning!
