How Much Time Does It Take?

Have you ever actually timed how long things take?

One thing I’ve learned through growing Vegvisir is to start paying attention to how long tasks actually take. It’s been especially helpful when delegating work at the gym and managing things like payroll.

But it’s also been a game changer personally.

Why?

Because it helps remove the mental block of “this is going to take forever.”

A few examples:

  • Taking out the trash, recycling, and compost? ~1 minute
  • Doing the dishes? ~10 minutes
  • Folding and putting away laundry? ~30 minutes
  • Writing a blog post? ~15 minutes

Before timing things, each of those felt like they would take at least an hour. In reality, they often take a fraction of that.

And that’s the key.

A lot of the time, the feeling of being “too busy” isn’t fully accurate—it’s a story we tell ourselves.

Using data helps ground that story in reality.

When you start to see how quick many of these small tasks actually are, it becomes much easier to knock them out. You’d be surprised how many little things you can clear off your plate in just a few minutes.

So try it out—start timing things in your day.

It might just make everything feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more manageable.
