Fighting The Holiday Slump

1,000 Experiences -> 100 Ideas -> 10 Beliefs = 1 Value

This is how our brains work when it comes to how we frame our view of the world.

Aware of it or not, our brains are little dimpled scientists working to keep the cells in our bodies alive. The senses allow us to experience the world around us and our brains decipher that knowledge and run it through the filter of our Values to make decisions more efficiently and save on energy expenditure.

I’m telling you this because it is this system that is what makes it difficult to get a habit and easier to keep it and as the holidays roll in, being mindful of what might happen mentally is something I find valuable.

What ya signed up for when you started your fitness journey with us:

You decided that you were making fitness a priority, which means that you were actually saying that you were going to create a value for yourself that self-care is important.

This idea could be backed by experiences of people on the internet telling you to be healthier, your family talking about how much they love their CrossFit routine, and so on.

The idea becomes stickier the closer the people are to you and the more you either experience the consequences of not moving your body or you saw the benefits of others moving their bodies, or keep the list going. Basically you have seen a cause and effect that you can trust and you want the outcomes for yourself. This is now a belief.

The fight you have now is the value you should take care of your body through eating well and moving your body daily, which can only be created through experiencing those benefits for yourself over time.

The problem the holidays present:

When you enter the holidays, your are about to battle older values that are more cemented in your brain that are valid contenders.

Family time is important.

Work is important.

This value that you are important and your well being is important to those other things is new and not backed by the years of experience those other two have. Which means it is easier to sacrifice this newer value.

The solution:

I urge that if this value is new to you, that you make the effort to do one thing for your personal health each day until the end of the year. Mental, emotional, or physical.

Set a reminder on your phone, block off an hour of you time in your calendar, tell others that 7pm-7:30pm is you time.

What ever it takes, make it the first thing you schedule and the last thing you give up. Even if it’s just 10 minutes that day and make it so that you do something that not only makes you feel better now but future you as well.

When you make it through the Holiday Season having done those 36 workouts or those 70 minutes of stretching each week or what ever you make those goals to be, you will have created over 90 experiences between now and January 1st that show your brain that this new value has equal merit to the others.

Be the rolling stone that gathers no moss the last month of 2025 and remember that the experiences you choose to have matter.

Have a wonderful day y’all and see you in the gym,
